What a great day for a ride and what a GREAT ride it was!! For those who didn’t make it, here’s the highlights: Manny and Hank formed up a group of 8 bikes and left the Base about 09:30 Sunday morning. It was cool, but sunny and weather promised good stuff all day. And that’s what was delivered.

The Base group met Moon, Susann, Yasuhiro Mimura (Yas), and Ken at the vending machines at Routes 188 and 141. 11 bikes, and 13 riders. Two pretty ladies rode with their guys. size=2>We took the “mountain road” to Rt. 2 to the Tokuyama East IC and then the SANYO expy to Hofu and then Rt. 262 to Goto Motors. Goto’s was packed with folks
for their Anniversary event. After shopping and lunch at Yuu-Me Town (Mac Donalds burgers or ramen were the choices. One guy had two bowls of ramen!), nine of us decided to take the scenic route back via Route 376. Lots of twists and turns. Stops were made at the Shimajigawa Dam and Susuma town for coffee. Then up and over Mt. Genkurouyama (573 meters or about 1880 feet elevation). Would you believe snow still up there along the sides of the
    road?!

On Sunday, 16 March, five Harley riders from Iwakuni joined 30 bikes of the Yamaguchi Harley Owners Group on a ride to Tsunoshima in the northwest corner of this prefecture. It was a perfect Spring day with sunshine and temps in the mid teens centigrade. Their route was surface roads to the Kumage IC, then the Sanyo to the Mine IC. There were too many bikes for the 7-11 parking lot, so they broke into groups following Route 435, and came together again in Hohoku town and bought bento lunches. They all finally arrived on Tsunoshima at 12:15 to find that many bike additional groups from other prefectures had already arrived to enjoy the same destination. Motorcycles covered the island and filled every parking area. The main meeting place was the lighthouse and its new scenic park with its view of the Japan Sea. Returning home completed another great ride in western Japan.
The H.O.G.’s next scheduled ride is to the Oshima event April 12-13 at Katazoe.
